Note: This crossing is going to be VERY, VERY hard to explain, since there's lots involved with this crossing.
UP and NS own this crossing, but BNSF, Amtrak, CSX, CN, KCS, A&S and TRRA have trackage rights.

Facing West. |
Note that both cantilevers say 8 tracks, which is incorrect. There used to be 7 tracks, but one track was abandoned that the cantilever protected in picture 3. The crossing now has 6 tracks, and the cantilever is now pretty useless, and the gate has been taken out for obvious reasons.
All lights are 12"x24". The signal in picture 2 has L.E.D. lights, that when activated, don't flash correctly. When the lights are in the "off" position, they still stay on, but dimmed. The cantilever in picture 1 is incandescent, but it's unknown what the other 2 signals are though.
All lights on the masts only face front. The only rear lights are on the cantilevers above the road.
The gate is removed here. It's unknown what type of GS bell this is. |

Get ready to read a LOT of information here...
The bell that isn't visible on the cantilever in picture 7 is a GS type 2 electronic bell.
I don't know why there are 3 DOT numbers here, but they all seem to be operated by LOTS of railroads. The list I have is UP, BNSF, Amtrak, NS, CSX, CN, and KCS, A&S and TRRA.
Each crossing report says something different about the crossings. One says 52 daily trains, one says 24, and the other says 20. All three reports all vary saying different things with the amount of signals, bells, and gates.
I've been told that this is a big changing point for a lot of railroads, so I wonder why the daily train count for 7 railroads isn't higher than 52? With 7 railroads, I'd say there would be more like 300-400 daily trains.
Unfortunately for us train/signal fans, police patrol this area more often than they should. A bad encounter with a cop happened on the August 5 trip over here. It almost happened again (possibly by the same cop) on the November 25 trip.
Pictures 1-3, 7 were taken on August 5, 2006. Pictures 4-6 were taken on November 25, 2006.

No cops disturbed this trip out on September 16, 2007. Pictures 1-12 were taken by CIC755.
Views of the Safetran fading LEDs. Note that the lights don't completely go out. These are not mid-flash pictures either. |
Pictures 13-22 were taken by TrainmanKight on April 3, 2009.
He was here for about an hour, and saw about 6 trains, and got no problems from police, or anything. Seems as though the problem with rude police may have been taken care of. |
