According to the accident report in 1975, this crossing actually had a wig-wag at it. And I think the accident actually destroyed the wig-wag, so they installed these. These signals are new enough for that, so I wouldn't be surprised if that is true. Today there is only one wigwag left in Maine at the Boothbay Railroad Museum.
Here is a video of the Kennebec River Rail Excursion train going through this crossing back in 2002. The railroad was already abandoned at this point, but the power to everything had not yet been disconnected.
