Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals

Sorry if I'm changing the subject a little here, but I was at the Yarra Valley Railway today and managed to have a lengthy conversation with a volunteer who told me some very interesting information. First of all, I've found out the reasons why the Healesville-Kinglake Rd crossing is activated by r...

You mean the thing that scares the living shit out of you in the middle of the day if the TV is turned up? Yeah, no thanks.
If you think that's bad, check out what we have to put up with on Emergency Alerts in Australia. :Eeeeek:

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals

Just wanted to share something that I found about the old Nepean Highway level crossing on the Mornington line. I found quite a few pictures on Flickr of some tours to Mornington and for one of them in 1981 , you see a old railcar next to the old Nepean Highway crossing. The crossing looks like it ...

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals

One more sad observation made today on the way home is the crossing at Old Junee was upgraded with new signals this week and the Westinghouse Teardrop bell is now gone https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-34.8402848,147.5179761,3a,75y,31.93h,86.15t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1spfDAdfKoZyJoN2_q68MuBw!2e0!7i13312...

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals

Some observations from a recent road trip to Victoria and South Australia. Visited the crossing at Barnes which was upgraded with gates last year https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-36.0289875,144.7901908,3a,75y,165.14h,92.82t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sPgxMnUsP1rlGSBKDfVCu6g!2e0!7i3328!8i1664 Sadly the upgr...

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals

I think it’s so stupid with some of the choices that they make for removal. I really don’t care about Cardina Road getting removed since it’s all new equipment but some of the crossings on the removal list are stupid. I filmed Camms road in February and barely any cars were using the road. Pointles...

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals

Speaking of crossing removals, the LXRA have today that the removal for the Cardina Road (one of my local crossings) has been 'fast tracked' with works to begin on a road bridge due to start later this year. :aaargh: https://levelcrossings.vic.gov.au/media/news/cardinia-road-fast-tracked-for-remova...

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals

Interesting find there, Chris96. Unfortunately, the bell nazis have been at work again and have targeted two crossings along the line. :Curse1: The first victim is Poplar Road, Parkville (Royal Park). The hybrid bells have been replaced with General Signals e-bells (both of which are adjusted Type 1...

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals

It's nice to see the forum is back in action :TUP1: Thought I'd share a couple of things that some of you may have already heard. Firstly the Wongawilli Coal Mine has been closed again, but this time they're removing some mining equipment so there seems to be little chance of it reopening. https://...
