Re: Infamous Fox River Grove crossing bell replaced

I passed by there in 2007 and snagged a quick picture for the site, although unfortunately I didn't capture the near, mast signal very well. You can see the mechanical bell on the cantilever, though. Coincidentally, the only other fatal accident in the database for this crossing occurred 11 years t...

Yeah. Things were made much better. Bryant zinc bells are louder than WCH and they are from 100+ years ago!
Yeah, even Safetran bells can ring ridiculously fast for years and be fine.

Re: Off beat bell

Yeah, NJT has a bunch of new WCH bells and they all seem offbeat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cb1D4MX78ek Yeah, I think it is the plastic parts that are wearing relatively quickly. It also is kinda annoying because after a few months, they sound weak. It makes new WCH bells sound like they are ...

Re: Off beat bell

Sounds like a WCH that's starting to wear out. It seems that some WCH mechanicals, especially the newer ones, will do this naturally due to the cheaper manufacturing processes for the bells, but I still love them all the same. In fact, my WCH bell does this even though it's brand new and has barely...

IMHO, it's probably a lack of quality control, and, for at least the older ones, aging electronics.
It could also be dust or moisture that gets in there and messes with it a little bit.

Re: Encounters With Others At Railroad Crossings

Well, a couple times I've been standing by the tracks, waiting for a train, and some lady will pull up and ask if I'm lost or waiting on someone.

Open Rails Screenshots

Open Rails is a free, open-source game that uses MSTS files and assets and can run them, along with its own assets and routes. It is basically MSTS 2.0, and it is very cool. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bjQQScxyxAjk7NH7RazbayAFeiSZVNBR/view?usp=sharing The train approaches https://drive.google.c...

Re: Infamous Fox River Grove crossing bell replaced

The signals have actually changed a little bit, the non-cantilever signal has been replaced. In pictures, it had the old Griswold EM-style gates. That is now gone, looks to have been replaced in the early 2000s by the looks of the signal. The cantilever signal (aside from the bell) looks pretty much...
