I was quite careful to spec out the RAV4 with the ABS, but without all that other stability and traction control garbage. The one I test drove with that garbage in it slowed itself down so far ( in the snow ) that it became a danger to be in. The AWD does just fine.

Did they try to fix something that wasn't broken? Again? Weird set up.

The Pennsy, and later the PennCentral, was really constrained by the labor contracts with the employees unions. Those towers survived until the operators (undoubtably of very high seniority) quit or retired.
