Re: Vintage WSOR video 2006-07

Just completed another installment in the series with lots of footage I originally took for Mike's DVDs. Several crossings with gateless 8" and/or incandescent signals and mechanical bells that have since been replaced, as well as the B&B ARMR crash barrier gates at Whitney Way in Madison. https://w...

Vintage WSOR video 2006-07

I'm going back and re-editing my old footage (rescaling 4:3 Hi8 and DV to 720 widescreen, horizon straightening, stabilizing the handheld shots as much as possible). Part of my introduction to railfanning was getting crossing videos for the DVDs that Mike H. used to sell through this site at the tim...

Glimpse of a B&O crossing signal from 1962

This is kinda neat although of course I wish he'd kept the film rolling even just a few seconds longer... One of my cousins has recently been digitizing the 8mm home movies taken by our grandfather from the 1950s into the '70s. Grandpa Bob wasn't a railfan but he did like to document random things h...

Re: Crossing Gate Contact

Re-upping this video now 10 years ago OTD. At 7:44 I got the camcorder rolling and the lens cap off just in time to catch the gate smacking the roof of a window cleaners' van at this crossing . This is now on my NEW railfanning YouTube channel so please give it a "like" and subscribe if you haven't ...

McIntosh St. in Wausau, WI. On the ex-Milwaukee Road Valley Sub, later Soo Line/Wisconsin Central LTD/CN/now Watco's Fox Valley & Lake Superior (FOXY) Railroad. One in a row of several crossings with simple gateless mast signal setups, all with 12"x 24" LEDs but with a surprisingly large proportion ...

Re: Crossing long removed, relay case left behind and still receiving power

That's funny. That segment of the old Shoreline has been abandoned since 1996. You can see in the aerial view, they still sometimes put cars right up to that red board on the old main. Sometimes they use an old caboose as a shoving platform when they switch there. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535...

Re: Misprinted crossbucks in service

Nice catch. UP has been known to store cars up to their end-of-track (prior to 2012 or so, CN's ex-WCL/FRVR portion of the line was still intact from there to Manitowoc, they then abandoned everything south of Newton but I believe there's no longer any traffic in Newton, either) but obviously as of...
