Re: Crossing long removed, relay case left behind and still receiving power

That's funny. That segment of the old Shoreline has been abandoned since 1996. You can see in the aerial view, they still sometimes put cars right up to that red board on the old main. Sometimes they use an old caboose as a shoving platform when they switch there. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535...

Re: Misprinted crossbucks in service

Nice catch. UP has been known to store cars up to their end-of-track (prior to 2012 or so, CN's ex-WCL/FRVR portion of the line was still intact from there to Manitowoc, they then abandoned everything south of Newton but I believe there's no longer any traffic in Newton, either) but obviously as of...

Historic (1982) Milwaukee Road video footage

Some of the only video footage (as opposed to motion picture film) that I know of of the Milwaukee Road was uploaded early this year, and it is from a very surprising/unique location! It shows a crew clearing out stored cars on the "Racine & Southwestern" line in preparation for abandonment. The sec...

Re: Misprinted crossbucks in service

Speaking of UP and odd things. I was looking to see if there was an updated Streetview of the Saemann Ave. crossing in Sheboygan yet. Happened to follow the line North to Haven and past, and noticed they did a crossbuck replacement on a VERY out of service crossing. Why, even? I think we all know t...

Re: US&S wigwag in Iowa in 1992

Good eye, I think that house is a better match for the one in the background of the video. What threw me off was the videographer in his narration described it as being "near" Hamilton whereas the link you posted is more "in" Hamilton.

US&S wigwag in Iowa in 1992

On what I assume (based on the name of the parallel road) is an ex-Wabash line in the town of Hamilton, south of Des Moines. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2O-9RwRrV_Q Starts at 4:41, there's a NS train going through followed by a pacing shot of a Sperry Rail Services RDC. Based on the background l...

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt

Was surprised to see this. The Cherry Ave. wigwag in Fresno, CA is still in service (or at least was as of January 2022), but with 8" L.E.D. flashing lights added to the mast underneath it! A "2 tracks" sign was also added https://goo.gl/maps/3ftc2DSK3VyC2R35A http://www.rxrsignals.com/California/D-...

The same user also recently uploaded a few more videos of that crossing.
