Sans the last section of links all those other lines were actually main routes for many trains. That abandoned segment near the light rail crossing was at one time the UP and MILW passenger main into Union Station. The end of track that turns into a trail I do believe is the old NP line to Woodinville WA. This line eventually ran to Snoqualmie WA where the Northwest Railway Museum is.

found something i forgot that i had wanted on the site for the longest time anyway this crosswalk is the remant.

let me explain

there are two visible crosswalk one is new ant follows the rails to trails the other is barely visible and is next to the rails to trails.

why?

to make room for the railroad when it was still there!

According to the date on the bridge, it is from 1910, so the early 20th century (close enough):

Found this abandoned branch line in Box Elder, SD.
These first two crossings on old US 14 have since been removed:
https://www.google.com/maps/@44.1134183 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@44.1133988 ... 312!8i6656

https://www.google.com/maps/@44.1138911 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@44.1138929 ... 312!8i6656

This crossbuck crossing right next to them though (on what was probably the original US 14 alignment through this area) still stands though:

https://www.google.com/maps/@44.1138885 ... 312!8i6656

Further north, the line crosses under I-90 and enters Ellsworth Air Force Base, which is where the line served.

That's interesting! Google caught the crossing with tracks in the median, July 2013:

And then also in July 2013, advance one frame, and they're gone!
