Is it really worth putting all that in just for a bell? Obviously they save money by not having to purchase the masts and light heads, but they still have to put in all the detection equipment that would normally be needed for the lights don't they?

Probably a standardized box size.. As far as the cost of masts and the like, they're just about 25% of the cost. Labor adds a whole bunch to the total. If the RR can legally add a bit of warning to an out of the way crossing on a barely used line...that beats the cost of going full up.

If that was in California, it would be gated with 12X24's for sure.

On that crossing theres holes and wires for lights so they probably will install lights
