This seems to be the norm for signals installed pre-1950.

Does anybody know when the practice of placing the Flashers in the center of the road ended? This seems to be the norm for signals installed pre-1950.
If I had to guess I would say in the 40s.

This setup in Lucas, Ohio is pretty dumb. The street to the left is protected just by signal on the other side of the crossing.

If I had to guess I would say in the 40s.
It also depended on the railroad. Don't believe the SOU, L&N, or NC&StL ever installed signals in the middle of the road unless it was a divided highway.

This railroad crossing in Windsor, Ontario right where the access road to the Ambassador Bridge and a local traffic road split from each other. I wonder how backed up the traffic becomes for the border when there is a train?
