I'm sure that the reason it's long is because you can see the road starts to get wider for that left turning lane at the approaching intersection.

This has two gateholders and is at a major intersection but it's enormous:

About as crazy long as the traffic light cantilever at that intersection:

MARC Frederick Station is down the track but it has only 6 MARC Trains(it is a CSX owned line and it's ends at a bunch of silos where the tracks are covered in foliage) some in the early morning and some at the evening.

All of the signals at this intersection appear to be wired together. And of course if you didn't notice it appears to be a quiet zone as the crossing has wayside horns. Would be a cool one to get a video of.
