Although this image is from 2014, it seems that the only change since 2010 is that the crossing now has newer white SORS signs.

Interesting find, hopefully nothing else has changed.

That sux, it's bad timing to be having buses this time of year during the Christmas rush, and it's the start of school holidays.
I knew that I should’ve gone yesterday! I’ve been putting it off for the last two weeks and then the day that I finally decide to go I get stuck for over 3 hours...
Replacement busses hadn’t even arrived when I was leaving (I was stuck at Southland Station). And the Metro staff didn’t even know what was going on...
The trains ended up being suspended all the way down to Morrabin with Metro advising that people take a bus to Darling station on the Glenwaverly line...

Btw I found out that Parker’s road at Parkdale has a type 2 and a adjusted type 1 and the new WCH gate mechs raise the gates really really fast.
It always amazes me that we have so much technology these days to communicate with each other but people still can't find out what's going on when there are delays on the public transport network. Then Metro or Sydney Trains (or whoever) will come up with some crappy excuse and have a fare free day or something similar to compensate.

I've also put off visiting crossings and then regretted it later, but it can be difficult to find the time, and sometimes the motivation :LOL4:
Slightly OT, but I've given Metro Trains a review on Google Maps (guess what I rated them and my review)...

It's shocking how many bad reviews Metro get, haven't found your review yet. Goes to show that the whole privatisation experiment has been a total failure.

Now Im not an Aussie but I do check this thread as it intrigues me. I just read some reviews on this "Metro" And I do have to say I thought I would never see a worse Public Transit provider outside the US. Even our Public Transport seems better then whatever the hell that is

It’s completely and utterly the shittiest transport system in the Western world! I’ve seriously had enough of them after today. I get the train max once or twice a week and I’ve bearly ever made it to my stop without experiencing some sort of delay. They also like to terminate trains without warning which I’ve experienced twice in the last week! The train will be packed with passengers, then all of a sudden over the PA is “all change, this train not taking passengers”. Without advising which platform the next train is going to be arriving on...

Sometimes they even change a city loop train to a Flinders street train last minute so they can make up time, but causing everyone else to have to change to another.

How they got their contract signed for another 7 years, I have no idea :Censored: but it definitely wasn’t within Melbournians interests that’s for sure!

The actual trains drivers though are very nice helpful people, that did try to help everyone that was stranded today, can’t say the same about the staff who’s job it is to give out information... They didn’t even know what was going on

It took me 2 and a half hours to get 10 stations up the line today... it’s usally a 20 minute trip... How it took 2 and a half hours, I don’t know, but something is seriously wrong with them to still carry on with this sort of behaviour!!

Sorry for the rant, I’m just really pissed off that i spent 4 hours of my day going 10km up the line and back...
Metro, why are you so bad at maintaining your railway crossings??

A short section of the Murwillumbah line has been reopened for a privately operated passenger service at Byron Bay. It operates between Shirley Street and Bayshore Drive where new stations have been constructed, although it stops short of both crossings so neither have been re-activated. This is the website for the new operator http://byronbaytrain.com.au/

Thanks to recent GSV updates, we can see the new stations. This is Shirley Street, the teardrop bell survives here although the signal is looking quite beat up.

The only crossing is a passive one at Kendall St. Prior to the track being reopened it had Give Way signs, but has now been converted to Stop Signs.

The other end of the line at Bayshore Drive https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-28.629 ... 312!8i6656

Interestingly the old signals here had the lights bagged, but they have since been uncovered and the signals repainted (including the bell). Maybe they are keeping the option open to extend the service in the future.

That's cool to hear, hopefully they'll be able to reopen more of the line and reactivate some of the signalized crossings (including Shirley Street).

Also found some gateless crossings future up the line which were only installed around 2002-03, bit of a waste considering that the line closed a few years later.

The track was closed in 2004 so those crossings had a very short life indeed :Awww:

What did that line service, and how many trains used it?
