This first article is from Wollongong and seems quite pointless to me. The author is complaining about there being more crossings in the Wollongong region compared to Sydney, and nothing is being done about it. The article ignores the fact that at least seven crossings have been removed since the 1980's, the most recent being in 2015, and work has also begun to bypass another crossing at Dapto (Bong Bong Rd).

The second article is from Rockhampton and seems to be another whinge piece about street running through the town, despite the fact that it would cost hundreds of millions (possibly billions) to move the railway line, and the trains go very slowly through town so nobody has ever been killed AFAIK.

Just as bad as the people who whinge about the fact their local crossing isn't being removed by Andrews Government (thankfully, there isn't any in my local area).

Luckily, this video will save us all!

Yes they complain when nothing is done, then when something is done they complain about people losing their properties or the disruption caused by the construction work!

Why did I have to bring that video up?

Back to the topic, I while back I posted this crossing at Bowenfels (near Lithgow), noting how one of the signals use a newer style "2 Tracks" sign despite having regular crossbucks.
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-33.478 ... 6656?hl=en

If you go back to November 2007, the crossing appears to have had different signals (this is the best view I could get of them).
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-33.478 ... 1664?hl=en

A few months later, it had the current signals.

Another thing of note is this gateless signal at the crossing which has UGL lights on a Westinghouse crossarm.

The other signals you could were the original ones installed around 1984 which had Harmon gate mechs. Wish I had taken some pictures because the setup was quite strange, from memory I think they had the crossbucks and other signage mounted separately on the old signposts from the passive crossing, but yeah it was quite odd. Not sure why they used UGL lights on the Westinghouse crossarm, maybe it was a repair job.

Is it possible that gateless signal originally had Westinghouse lights and dates back to the previous install with Harmon gate mechs?
They/Them for me, please.

That's just lazy on so many levels! :LOL3:

I think you can make them out in these images taken from the station.

It's possible that gateless signal could be original, but don't know for sure. It could also be an additional signal installed after the gates, or possibly replaced the original signal if it was hit by a vehicle. As for the original lights, they could have been Westinghouse or WCH, as it was common for new installations in the 1980's to use WCH lights with Westinghouse crossarms.

I wonder why they didn’t remove the passive signs and put crossbucks on the signals? I managed to find a video of the crossing, and it looks like the lights were WCH and Westinghouse.
You can see the signals at 29:21.

Excellent find with the video

From the angle in the video, it kinda looks like the gateless signal is mounted on a square concrete foundation, while the current signal sits on a round foundation. Maybe it was moved or replaced for some reason? https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-33.478 ... 312!8i6656

It might just be me, but it looks like the signal is closer to the track in the video?
