That is one flat hybrid bell later in the video!Username1 wrote:Not sure where this crossing is, but maybe General Signals has already beat WCH e bells to the party, judging by the GS type 3s at this crossing in the first clip. https://youtu.be/_T8nkuGNxig
It could be a tourist line though, judging by the rest of the video and the poor state of the tracks.

I'm thinking the gated crossing is probably at Princess St, Drysdale https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-38.183 ... 328!8i1664 but as usual GSV is way out of date so it's hard to tell.TrickyMario7654 wrote:Yeah that's the Bellarine Tourist Railway.Username1 wrote:Not sure where this crossing is, but maybe General Signals has already beat WCH e bells to the party, judging by the GS type 3s at this crossing in the first clip. https://youtu.be/_T8nkuGNxig

Oops, something’s gone wrong on the Ararat Maryborough line and I wonder if this helped cause the sudden changeover of the gate lights and E bells?

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
They mentioned "non formalised" crossings and it's anyones guess what that means. Maybe it means that the equipment at the crossings hasn't been given the final tick of approval or certified to be in working order. Usually when fancy terminology like that is used, it means they are trying to keep quiet about something. Not sure why they would be having problems with the crossings, there are no points or sidings on the line so it would be a very basic setup for a single track, not exactly rocket science!Username1 wrote:Oops, something’s gone wrong on the Ararat Maryborough line and I wonder if this helped cause the sudden changeover of the gate lights and E bells?

Seems odd that they don't even have a passing loop anywhere on the line, would be a long wait at either Ararat or Maryborough if there is a train coming the other way.
Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
The whole project seems like a rushed sham tbh. I re-watched the report and the reporter mentions ‘sacked contractors’, so I wonder if this is the reason for the e bell disappearance. Maybe Bradken lost the contract?McK&H.Aust wrote:They mentioned "non formalised" crossings and it's anyones guess what that means. Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
Noticed on the ARTC website that a few level crossing upgrades have been delayed recently. Wonder if it could have anything to do with the crossing problems on the Maryborough - Ararat line?

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
As I’ve said, they’ll “fast track” the removal of Level Crossings in Melbourne (known as “The Melbourne Level Crossing Massacre”), but take a billion years to upgrade crossings in rural Victoria. Seems like they only mostly care about the suburbs.McK&H.Aust wrote:Noticed on the ARTC website that a few level crossing upgrades have been delayed recently. Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
Not sure if this has been posted about, but according to some photos posted in the Railroad Signals group on Facebook earlier today, this signal at the crossing next to the Parkdale Station was replaced:
https://www.google.com/maps/@-37.993768 ... 312!8i6656
From what I can tell in the photos posted (they were focusing on the Searchlight signals on the station platform), the new signal has a WCH gate mechanism, black-painted lights (likely Westinghouse, they are LED), and a General Signals e-bell. Also, the other signal has had the lights upgraded to LED, and the gate mech was replaced it appears as well. Not sure who made that gate mech, as I could only see the side facing the street, but it appeared to be either Safetran or WCH.

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
Yes I’ve posted this before. I go past this crossing quite often on the train. Both of the gate mechs are WCH and it has new Magnetic Autocontrol swing gates, Westinghouse LED lights and an adjusted type 1 GS e bell and a type 2 GS e bell. The type 2 sounds out after the gates have lowered now when before it never used to and the adjusted type 1 is so quiet you can’t hear it from 5 meters away, making the crossing seem as if it totally silences after the gates have lowered (although abonoxiously loud Yodalarms have been installed in the pedestrian gates...)freebrickproductions wrote:Not sure if this has been posted about, but according to some photos posted in the Railroad Signals group on Facebook earlier today, this signal at the crossing next to the Parkdale Station was replaced:

One weird thing about this crossing is that when it was upgraded it got new inverted SORS signs, when all of the others around Melbourne that have been installed recently have the newer style.

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
I have a feeling that Bradken may have lost the contract for all the upgrades, but the crossings that VicTrack are getting upgraded from them still appear on both the Bradken and VicTrack websites.McK&H.Aust wrote:Noticed on the ARTC website that a few level crossing upgrades have been delayed recently.
