Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
Some of y'all might find this interesting. A guy named Darren Hodges on Facebook shared these pictures with me, and I got permission to share them here. These are of some GRS Lex-C lights, that, according to him, were found on a crossing in Geelong, Victoria, on the now closed Fyansford Cement Works Line back in the 1990s.
There was a total of 3 pairs at the crossing, one signal had a full set while the other just only had one pair in use as side lights, and were paired with a pair of Safetran mechanical bells and what appears to be two pairs of Westinghouse lights. They apparently disappeared shortly after the line was closed, though at least the other lights remained long after.
But anyways, here's the pictures:

Went to look at the Ararat - Maryborough
Here's a list of remaining mechanical bells on Victoria's railways: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5126&p=41865&hilit=metro#p41865

Never knew they had Lex-C lights in Victoria, I'm glad that somebody got pictures. The 6 Tracks sign is also interesting, you don't often see that many tracks on Australian crossings.

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
Found some more Victorian level crossing upgrades advertised on the ARTC website.
First is the Princes Hwy crossing at Heathmere, on the Portland Line https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-38.219 ... 312!8i6656
The document doesn't go into much detail, but considering there is going to be a test engine, this points to a signal upgrade at the crossing.
https://extranet.artc.com.au/docman/Doc ... ?416529090
Pretty sure there haven't been any grain movements on the line since the middle of last year, and probably none will happen this year either.
Ewings Rd, Avenel https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-36.895 ... 328!8i1664
I thought the upgrade with gates would have already been completed, but maybe not.

Lastly there is another advertisement for McMahons Rd, Springhurst https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-36.208 ... 312!8i6656

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
Might be worth recording the test engine going through it if you haven't gotten a video of the crossing already, prior to it getting an upgrade.McK&H.Aust wrote: First is the Princes Hwy crossing at Heathmere, on the Portland Line https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-38.219 ... 312!8i6656

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
Sadly I will be working when the upgrade is scheduled to happen, so can't make it there. I did manage to get some pictures of the crossing last year. The Portland line is used for grain exports only and hasn't seen a train for almost 9 months. Due to severe drought conditions in NSW and QLD, whatever grain there is in Victoria is being sent directly to those states so the Portland line misses out. This will most likely continue for the remainder of 2019.freebrickproductions wrote:Might be worth recording the test engine going through it if you haven't gotten a video of the crossing already, prior to it getting an upgrade.McK&H.Aust wrote: First is the Princes Hwy crossing at Heathmere, on the Portland Line https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-38.219 ... 312!8i6656

The test engine usually comes after the new equipment has been installed, to check everything works as it should. To get there it will travel over many other nice crossings, so anyone lucky enough to be in the area on that day could possibly film some of them.

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
Found another crossing on the Richmond line in NSW which has been upgraded with new signals and e-bells. This time the Bandon Road crossing at Vineyard is the subject of Sydney Trains m-bell eradication program (which is nearing completion). https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-33.650 ... 312!8i6656
The new signals can be seen beginning at 1:34 in this video...

I know this is a bit of a bump for this old post, but according to newer street view imagery, all three of those crossings have had their bells replaced:McK&H.Aust wrote:There are some interesting crossings between Echuca and Deniliquin, but as usual the images are quite old so they could have been upgraded by now.
These two crossings have WCH m-bells which are the older kind without the stepped base. They also seem to have WRRS junction boxes for the lights which is rare for Victorian Railways.

This crossing at Sturt St, Echuca has an interesting setup with a cantilever signal and a Westinghouse hybrid bell mounted on the median signal.

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
Thanks for the updates. It seems that despite the line beyond Echuca seeing few trains these days, money was spent on the usual Safetran type 3 upgrade.freebrickproductions wrote:(Reposting because this post got eaten by the forum earlier.)I know this is a bit of a bump for this old post, but according to newer street view imagery, all three of those crossings have had their bells replaced:McK&H.Aust wrote:There are some interesting crossings between Echuca and Deniliquin, but as usual the images are quite old so they could have been upgraded by now.
