Miniature Crossing Signals

Post by chris96 » Thu Sep 29, 2016 7:02 am

Thought I'd start this topic (since there doesn't seen to be a similar thread on here already) dedicated to miniature railroad crossing signals found inside theme parks, zoos and model railroad clubs. Here you can post images, videos and street view links (since street view is now available inside many theme parks and zoos) of said crossings. Full scale signals and trains are also welcome if they are located inside one of these public attractions. I'll start off:

Miniature signals for "The Little Puffer" at the San Francisco Zoo:

Looks like the lights are stuck on one side at this crossing:

https://www.google.com.au/maps/@37.7328 ... 312!8i6656

Some of the above crossings in action:

As you can see, the signals have been upgraded here since street view went through:

A full scale setup at Kings Island Ohio:

For some reason these gates have netting attached to them:

Six Flags St. Louis have employed some unique "traditional" style gates:

Just stumbled upon this on the Arborway Miniature Railroad. A crossing is protected by a Griswold rotating stop sign! :TUP1: :

Another has a vintage illuminated STOP signal! :TUP2: :

Also, a miniature Wigwag:

I really like this topic! :TUP2: I've thought about doing one but I never got around to it because I could not figure out what to call it.
I wouldn't consider the Kings Island & Miami Valley Railroad a miniature railway because they use full scale 914 mm (3ft) carriages on a 914 mm railway. Defiantly a cool crossing though, there are also two gate-less signals too for employees.
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.3407221 ... 6656?hl=en
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.3407221 ... 6656?hl=en

There are also numerous crossbuck only crossings on the railway too. I remember seeing them when I was only eight or nine years old, I remember thinking how cool they were. One thing I think is cool about the crossings at King's Island is that they actually need those, they don't have them for novelty or decoration or anything like that, without those gated signals it would be a mess! No one would know when there is a train coming and it would not be easy to stop people from crossing the crossing anyway, using typical amusement park style signals would not work here either. The gate-less signals at that crossing help prevent an employee in a vehicle from getting hit by a train, the view of the tracks is not very clear from the crossing with the gate-less signals. The crossbuck only crossings are also very useful because it allows employees to know when they are approaching the tracks so they know to be cautious. The reason I'm saying this is because I just find it very cool that the reason that King's Island uses full scale signals and signage is the same reason that a public crossing would use them. :TUP1:

The all 8-inch signal at the Detroit Zoo has an RRS bell! Nice find!

IDK, a few posts above shows full sized signals as well. Maybe it's more of "Crossing Signals for Miniature Trains".

Yeah, as I said in the introduction, full scale signals and trains are welcome in this thread as long as they are located within a public attraction. I probably should have called this topic "Zoo and Theme Park Railroad Crossings" or something like that :OhWell:

I'll reshare something I've found. There's a railway that runs around the Caribbean Market & Gardens and there's a few signals in there. This one's at the entrance and has Safetran Mechanical bell and a WABCO bell!
