Gypsy Lane level crossing is closed to vehicular traffic but pedestrians can still access the still active signals.

Re: Closed off railroad crossings.
They do, but i wonder why Network Rail decided not to add full skirted barriers here because when the crossing is active pedestrians can just walk around the barriers, according to a YouTube comment, it will only be open when a road is closed or if Emergency vehicles need to access it, its been like that for the crossing since 2005.ZachL wrote:StreetView: https://www.google.com/maps/@54.5330974 ... 6656?hl=enNathanFromEngland wrote:Gypsy Lane level crossing is closed to vehicular traffic but pedestrians can still access the still active signals.

High train traffic, or a high number of accidents at the location.IanMP wrote:Whats the matter of closing a crossing when it is still usefull for motorized vehicles?NathanFromEngland wrote:Gypsy Lane level crossing is closed to vehicular traffic but pedestrians can still access the still active signals.

Re: Closed off railroad crossings.
Peoples Lane in Lakeland Florida was mean't to have a road built from the east. But the plans fell through. Some signals were installed and stayed until 2014. When CSX removed them and replaced them with crossbucks.

Peoples Lane used to be a 2 lane road until it was downgraded to a no through road residential street.

Re: Closed off railroad crossings.
I know of a few crossings in Victoria which have been closed off (either temporarily or permanently)...
The first one is a real classic. When the Pakenham bypass (in the background) was built, Ryan Road (along with a few other quiet roads) was closed. It just so happened that Ryan Road was closed off where the crossing was. But, they left the signals behind!
The above news report aired in October 2008 (almost a year after the road was closed and the bypass opened), and they remained! Every time a train came through, the signals would activate... Protecting no one!
At the end of the news report, V/line said 'the crossing safety equipment would be removed'. But, come 2010 and the crossing signals were still standing! Also note how they're active in this shot.

According to the comments on the news report video, the signals were removed between 2010-2012. Here's the site today.

While the actual crossing isn't closed, the road beyond it is! The unsealed section of Evans Road in Lynbrook and Lyndhurst was closed by the Casey Council in 2005 due to it being unsafe. As you can tell, they've since sealed it, but the road remains shut.

Although, it's still open to pedestrians as a pedestrian crossing was installed in 2014.

Here's a few news articles on the road closure has been affecting locals for many years now.

The reasoning behind the road still being shut is that a nearby intersection (South Gippsland Highway/Hallam Road/Evans Road) needs to be upgraded to cater the extra traffic demand due to growth in the area.

It appears that the road will be reopened soon as the said intersection is gonna be upgraded.

Metro, why do you keep removing Mechanical bells?!

The crossing was closed in 2010 when a Cul-De-Sac was built, the signals were removed later that year and the only remaining equipment is the relay case.
Here is a video of the crossing shortly after it was closed.
