US&S wigwag signals in Kenton, Ohio in 1985
Didn't know there were any wigwags in service in Ohio that recently! The crossing was a Conrail crossing when the photo was taken.

Looks like this could've been where the signals were located, too hard to tell though.

I wonder if one of those signals is the wigwag at the Age of Steam Roundhouse near Sugarcreek, Ohio.

I wouldn't be surprised that, up into the 1990s, every contiguous US state had at least one wigwag still operating...
They/Them for me, please.

Well, the L&N did operate trackage in parts of Florida (mainly the panhandle) and they used wigwags, though their wigwags were very rarely installed and much of the equipment on the former L&N lines I've seen in Florida appear to have been replaced years ago, for the most part.ZachL wrote:Oh goodness, that would be awesome to see wigwag photos from Florida...freebrickproductions wrote:I wouldn't be surprised that, up into the 1990s, every contiguous US state had at least one wigwag still operating...

It seems that most eastern states (except Michigan and Indiana if they could in the region that I'm kinda referring to) didn't have that many wigwags in the 20th century compared to the other contiguous states. Kinda odd.ZachL wrote:Oh goodness, that would be awesome to see wigwag photos from Florida...freebrickproductions wrote:I wouldn't be surprised that, up into the 1990s, every contiguous US state had at least one wigwag still operating...

I think railroads over here prefered flashing light signals since the beginning for the most part. I know New Jersey had a US&S wigwag in the 1990s though. It was at this crossing:ToledoRailfan wrote:It seems that most eastern states (except Michigan and Indiana if they could in the region that I'm kinda referring to) didn't have that many wigwags in the 20th century compared to the other contiguous states. Still kinda odd though that they were and still are much more frequent out west than in the east. Wasn't that wigwag in New Jersey moved to a tourist railroad?freebrickproductions wrote:I think railroads over here prefered flashing light signals since the beginning for the most part. Not sure. Also, I think the wigwag you're thinking of is the one in New Hampshire:ToledoRailfan wrote:Still kinda odd though that they were and still are much more frequent out west than in the east. The wigwag in New Jersey was just a normal US&S wigwag like the ones you posted above.

No, I think it was in New Jersey. It didn't guard a crossing. It was on display.freebrickproductions wrote:Also, I think the wigwag you're thinking of is the one in New Hampshire:ToledoRailfan wrote:Still kinda odd though that they were and still are much more frequent out west than in the east.
