Stop Signs During RR Signal Replacement

Post by Brian556 » Mon Oct 15, 2018 12:44 am

This is crazy. Never seen anything like it. The cantilever signals on a major street were taken down, and stop signs without crossbucks were used during construction of the new signals. This condition looks like it lasted several days at least.

Depending on how busy the crossing and/or road is, it may not have been too much of an issue to do it that way, especially since the crossing would likely have to be flagged when a train is crossing.
They/Them for me, please.

The old cantilevers were suspended.

Old signals were also behind the stop bar, meaning that they could have installed the new gated signals first, then taken down the cantilevers, then installed the new cantilevers in their place

I can tell that the line is lightly used by its condition. However, it is illegal to have a railroad crossing with no crossbucks. It is also illegal to use a 30x30 stop sign if there is more than one lane. 36x 36 should be used here. Also, there are no flags on the stop signs. Flags should be used when a new or temporary stop sign is placed on an existing roadway. Also, this setup is inconvenient to drivers on a major street, making them stop for a lightly used rail line.

Of course this was in Oklahoma. This would never happen in Texas.
