Mexico City Crossings (Ex-NdeM)

Post by Gametrain54321 » Fri Sep 13, 2019 8:57 pm

Here is some cool signalized crossings I've found on Ferrovalle and Ferrosur's network of branchlines in Mexico City, all having some nice and old NdeM equipment. NOTE: 95% of these crossings don't actually activate when trains pass, but a handful still do.

Starting off on the Ferrosur/Ferrovalle line in the northern subarbs, we have a crossing with some old NdeM signals featuring Safetran 8 inch lights, a hybrid bell, and some old (US&S?) cantilevers: https://goo.gl/maps/TQxTDourC6r9EN278

Next, a one signal wonder with a pair of either Modern Industries or Harmon 12x20 inchers and a WRRS mechanical bell: https://goo.gl/maps/KeCSLtndUuvqQxqLA
And a second one right next to it, except without any visors on the lights: https://goo.gl/maps/voy3u9Au5fU99R2CA
Here is a video:

Next is another NdeM install with a WRRS mechanical bell: https://goo.gl/maps/2Vf3mx5dufCHyMhM7

Another one, though this time with an extra mast signal: https://goo.gl/maps/k59jMVSiwxqhtaJZ9

Here's an old NdeM install with a pair of mast signals, however it only retains a single GRS 8 inch light and a WRRS bell: https://goo.gl/maps/Erfimrq7ThegyBck6
The other signal's lights were mounted pretty high up on the mast: https://goo.gl/maps/XVyFHUJukjmWH4NL7

Slightly newer NdeM install with traffic light mast arms, WRRS mechanical bells and Safetran 8 inchers. Check out the bell mounts! https://goo.gl/maps/prMhLtejNBMPqsSs9
Here's a video. The bells actually shut off very early on but the lights apparently continue to flash. One of the bells sounds like a cowbell as well:
Sadly, the signal with the more interesting bell mount was knocked down or removed sometime between 2016 and 2017: https://goo.gl/maps/b1umTRQqZujic8Lh9

A bell-less, gateless crossing, one signal featuring a pair of Safetran 8 inchers and one with Harmon 12x20 inchers. Gonna guess the 12x20 inch signal replaced an old NdeM signal that was knocked down: https://goo.gl/maps/RDmiXi5kiWHTKdWn9
Here's a video of the crossing:

Interesting NdeM cantilever install: https://goo.gl/maps/F9X9aUhmvqWhcaM26

Another bell-less one, which we can confirm doesn't work anymore, as street view caught a train here in 2016 and the signals were not on: https://goo.gl/maps/Kcg3e5qa6LnYF3TU9
However, 2009 street view shows the crossing in action! It also used to have a WRRS cowbell: https://goo.gl/maps/ZgZ8SWXi9q9KKHhZ7
Here's a video as well:

Old cantilever install with a hybrid bell: https://goo.gl/maps/PkKJLpd4VwaWafzMA
The hybrid actually replaced a WRRS mechanical bell, interestingly enough: https://goo.gl/maps/7MxfHbXo7pfHvmej8
The crossing might still work, considering the connected relay case: https://goo.gl/maps/1514qzPrN8LhRZqF8

Another one with WRRS bells: https://goo.gl/maps/WoKm8kjyRaV7oX2X8
Sadly, both signals were removed sometime between 2017 and 2018: https://goo.gl/maps/vZ7hbTD7XzVCrUkf7

Another: https://goo.gl/maps/VQprzorkufgmrV8d7

Another one on a branchline which sadly had the lights, hybrid bell and even gates removed: https://goo.gl/maps/5AcW29yWKjQb9XCV8
https://goo.gl/maps/Ez5kyRzS4G14xvES7
Oddly enough, the gates were removed before everything else, according to 2009 and 2011 street view: https://goo.gl/maps/nepbiMZcrDVy3udX6

Newer Mexican install which has been heavily vandalized: https://goo.gl/maps/DFaAK9e2sTDj6TEZ9

Back on the mainline, an old cantilever install with a hybrid bell, only with a slightly larger cantilever: https://goo.gl/maps/Xqsn89YwZ61ctkZn7
Another on the next street: https://goo.gl/maps/rZyvCzxLCxer9X4cA

This install is so old that it's setup like a 2-way road but it's now a 1-way: https://goo.gl/maps/4NW6PECV1JUTJ8hp8

A very nice crossing: https://goo.gl/maps/p1sG8JNkLNMcUzRw9
One signal used to have a gate and the other had a WRRS mechanical bell: https://goo.gl/maps/qp4qeBVEjqoMabyq5

Another one exactly like it, only it still retains the bell and had two gates as of 2008 street view, one being damaged and one just being the gate mechanism: https://goo.gl/maps/xhuZTs9oZzNPf7ab6
https://goo.gl/maps/HmDCCEaQxvkz4M3q7

You basically get the idea for crossings on that line. I will now show some crossings along the Ferrovalle lines further into Mexico City.

Starting off with a few interesting crossings on an abandoned branchline:
https://goo.gl/maps/SX1MHNAVq3NJpgMX6
https://goo.gl/maps/E3PDSqYnVVU3hghZA
https://goo.gl/maps/1xN418XrhdnF11y16

The last time these signals served, the road direction was entirely different: https://goo.gl/maps/FHkcKQ3DezGbriAz5
https://goo.gl/maps/ABtggS8uTUvEHP2KA
This guy still retains a hybrid bell, so you could technically consider a bell-only crossing, even though it originally wasn't: https://goo.gl/maps/qF7Z1Qdbs8FWF51D7
Anyone what kind of lights it had? https://goo.gl/maps/d9pT5jKrnydUjFwL6

Moving on to the active portion, there are various crossings with traffic light mast arms and Safetran equipment: https://goo.gl/maps/55xCZzUFiY9YesVbA
Used to have gates, which I never knew they put gates on the mast arm signals!: https://goo.gl/maps/tXXUiUTSffndWbBv7

TBH, this reminds me of Conrail: https://goo.gl/maps/1At6W1jBfaBjqBtW7

https://goo.gl/maps/Gu6aRoXnn
https://goo.gl/maps/DVfWxN5vPP75kDHw8
https://goo.gl/maps/LvptcaXrJhXJprZc7

https://goo.gl/maps/2TkMCyJkJt14MnHv9
Video of this one in action:

Another neat one: https://goo.gl/maps/MQG6ULMGoASYrvdV6
This crossing even had four gates! https://goo.gl/maps/9KqpiJR4QCYpMwYM9
Video:

An EXTREMELY nice crossing, and the near signal even features a pair of the only GRS Lex-C lights I know of in Mexico! https://goo.gl/maps/vK318pDKxPihvcgC7
There is a video here:

Another nice crossing, and one side can be heard active at the beginning of a video: https://goo.gl/maps/FGWvAtQ1q4YPYoKY8

Another interesting one: https://goo.gl/maps/qt9uj4zGLtcKRqUj9

Well, that's all I'm gonna show here before this post gets too long. Thanks for reading!

Excellent Documentation! Mexico City definitely has the highest density of Crossing Signals in Mexico.
To bad that any new installation tends to get heavily vandalized in a short amount of time.
