Remaining Mechanical Bells On The Metro Rail Network In Melbourne

Here's a list of the remaining mechanical bells on the Metro Rail network in Melbourne. The list includes crossings which had them from January 2016
COLOR KEYS
Crossings in red indicates crossing has been grade separated.
Crossings in orange indicates crossing has been closed off and removed
Crossings in blue indicates bell has been replaced with an E-Bell.
Crossings in magenta indicates that one of the bells have been replaced with an ebell.
Crossings in green indicates that I'm unsure if it's still there.

Sandringham Line
•Union Street, Windsor (Westinghouse Hybrid & Safetran Mechanical bell, replaced August 2016)
•Glen Eira Road, Ripponlea (Westinghouse Hybrid & Safetran Mechanical bell, replaced August 2016)
•Hampton Street, Hampton (Westinghouse Hybrid x2, replaced August 2016)

Sadly, the last remaining mechanical bells on the line were replaced by August 2016.

Frankston Line
•North Road, Ormond (Westinghouse Hybrid x2, grade separated June-July 2016)
•Centre Road, Bentleigh (Westinghouse Hybrid x2, grade separated June-July 2016)

•Eel Race Road, Carrum (Westinghouse Hybrid x2, replaced July 2018. Hybrids sounded flat because the crossing was right next to the ocean, road closed and crossing removed February 2020)
Armstrongs Road, Seaford (Westinghouse Hybrid x2, replaced January 2016)
•Seaford Road, Seaford (Westinghouse Hybrid x2, replaced January 2016, grade separated September 2018)
•Skye/Overton Road, Frankston (Westinghouse Hybrid x2, grade separated June 2018)
With the replacement of the Westinghouse hybrid bells at Eel Race Road the Frankston line is now 100% ebells

Oakover Road, Preston (Westinghouse Hybrid x2, grade separated late May 2022)
Murray Road, Preston (Westinghouse Hybrid x2, the hybrid which sounded till the gates rose died in early 2019 because of an accident there and the hybrid bell died after constant activation, dead hybrid replaced with a Safetran Type 3 in July-August 2019 and working hybrid and Safetran Type 3 replaced August-September 2019. Level crossing grade separated in late May 2022)
High Street, Reservoir (Westinghouse Hybrid x2, stupidly replaced between April & July 2017, grade separated December 2019)
Keon Parade, Reservoir (Westinghouse Hybrid x3, the middle one didn’t sound, slated for removal, replaced July 2021. The other one in the middle which didn’t work was oddly replaced in mid 2019 with a General Signals ebell which also didn’t work. The signal the hybrid bell was on was knocked over after a truck crashed into it after getting hit by a train)
Since the grade separation of Oakover Road, Preston the Mernda line is now 100% electronic bells.

Hurstbridge Line
•Marshall Street, Ivanhoe (Westinghouse Hybrid & McK&H Teardrop bell, sadly replaced in February 2017)
Allendale Road, Eltham (Westinghouse Hybrid x2, replaced late July 2020)
Main Hurstbridge Road, Diamond Creek (Westinghouse Hybrid x2, replaced mid April 2022)

This is a list of crossings on disused railway lines in Victoria which have mechanical bells. The list includes crossings which hadthem from January 2019 and of disused railways that still have quite a large section of track left.

Crossing in green indicates that I'm unsure if it's still there
Crossing in blue indicates that the bell has been removed[/
Crossing in orange indicates the bell has been replaced by another mechanical bell
Crossing in red indicates that the signals have been removed

Taliem Bend-Murrayville line

No active crossings in the Victoria part left :Awww:

Murtoa Freezing Works siding

One crossing is passsive, while the other has no signage

Sea Lake- Kulwin line

No active crossings left

Mangatang-Robinvale line

100% passive crossings

Rainbow-Yaapeet line

Only one crossing on this line and it has an ebell

Heywood-Mt Gambier line

No active crossings in the Victorian part left :Awww:

Portland Spur line

-Garden Street, Portland (Westinghouse Hybrid x1, the hybrid bell rather oddly replaced a teardrop bell in about the mid 2010's)

Redan line

Lyndhurst Street, Bridgewater On Loddon (Westinghouse Teardrop x1, replaced oddly with a hybrid bell in mid or late 2019. Hybrid bell oddly replaced with a Safetran Type 3 in early 2021. The Safetran Type 3 has since been removed)

Fyansford Cement Works line

Only one crossing survives on this line (McCurdy Road, Herne Hill) which only has the masts and no signage, lights or bells left. The whole section between North Geelong and McCurdy Road has all been pulled up. :Awww:

Drysdale-South Geelong line

No level crossings left

Corio Quay Wharf Siding

Only one crossing on this line and it doesn’t have any equipment or signage

Midway Siding

-The Esplanade, North Shore (Westinghouse Hybrid x1)

Phosphate Siding

-Seabeach Parade, North Shore (Westinghouse Hybrid x1)

Elders IXL Siding

-Forest Road North, Lara (Westinghouse Hybrid x1)

Webb Dock Line

This is the only crossing on the line

Mornington line (between Baxter and Moorooduc)

Only one active crossing left on this line (Baxter-Tooradin Road) and it has ebells as it’s shared with the Stony Point Line which is in use.

South Gippsland line

-South Gippsland Highway, Cranbourne (Westinghouse Hybrid x1)
- Warragul Road, Korumburra (McKenzie And Holland Teardrop x1, signals removed March 2020)
