Stop signs at Louisville crossing
Found this clip on youtube. The crossing itself looks interesting, with some Lex-C lights and Safetran mechanical bell. Not sure if stop signs will help much, if drivers are happy to ignore the flashing red lights then why would they bother with a stop sign? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qtv_XdZyJCU
Re: Stop signs at Louisville crossing
According to Wisconsin's "Commish" that's a complete violation on the MUTCD.
Eventually the city should just work with the railroad to install gates and median barriers.
Or I guess in this case, the State is spending the money...
Either way though. I love how he says gates will just fix it completely.
IMO, it needs to be either gates and median barriers or quad gates.

Found the crossing on GSV, they certainly went ahead with the stop signs https://www.google.com/maps/@38.1938789 ... 312!8i6656
Also found this nearby, looks like a Griswold banner signal https://www.google.com/maps/@38.1938789 ... 312!8i6656
They could have installed that at the crossing, takes care of the stop sign as well

Re: Stop signs at Louisville crossing
I'm fairly certain that stop signs at a signalized at-grade crossing is an FRA violation.

Nice find with that Griswold! I'll have to check that out some day.McK&H.Aust wrote:Found the crossing on GSV, they certainly went ahead with the stop signs https://www.google.com/maps/@38.1938789 ... 312!8i6656

Also, I saw on Facebook that the old GRS Lex-C signals were replaced, though there are still tons around the city.
I know around here that some crossing with stop signs had directly replaced crossbucks, and the railroad (usually NS) never removed them for some reason.ZachL wrote:I'm fairly certain that stop signs at a signalized at-grade crossing is an FRA violation.

By the way, for those who don't remember, this is the crossing where this accident had happened.

Re: Stop signs at Louisville crossing
Didn't stop someone from installing them in Randall, just a few miles North of where I live. This has been a gated crossing since I was a wee pup, but for some reason the stop signs were added (going by historical data on crossing #197002J) sometime in 2005.ZachL wrote:I'm fairly certain that stop signs at a signalized at-grade crossing is an FRA violation.

Well,

This whole situation is just frustrating to me. The railroads and the cities shouldn't have to protect themselves from people being stupid. It only seems to be getting worse.
