I'm surprised the railroad doesn't put up some kind of small barricade around part of the cantilever base and the highway to... well, at a minimum, try to absorb a little of the impact should something stray from the roadway again. There's not enough room for a full fledged fence, but at a minimum they could at least erect a number of small steel poles... similar to what states erecting the cable barriers along the interstates use...
I mean, unless it's just so close to the highway already that engineering studies show it's not possible.
