Train hits truck at Manildra, NSW.
Luckily nobody was injured, although the train was partially derailed when a grain train hit a truck on a crossing with gateless signals at Manildra NSW. Considering the angle at which the truck came to rest, it is likely that one of the signals was damaged.

This is the crossing on GSV, pretty sure nothing much has changed since 2010.

Re: Train hits truck at Manildra, NSW.
Comparing the picture to street view, it appears that the signal without the bell would've been damaged.
They/Them for me, please.

I wonder if the crossing will get gates now, as that's what would usually happen in Victoria.McK&H.Aust wrote:Luckily nobody was injured, although the train was partially derailed when a grain train hit a truck on a crossing with gateless signals at Manildra NSW. Lucky he didn't get the one with the bell.
Metro, why do you keep removing Mechanical bells?!

I saw a post on Facebook showing the signal with the m-bell remains. I wouldn’t be surprised if the truck driver ignored the signals and ended up being hit. I wonder if the crossing will be upgraded?McK&H.Aust wrote:Luckily nobody was injured, although the train was partially derailed when a grain train hit a truck on a crossing with gateless signals at Manildra NSW. It's good that the m-bell survived, but the crossing will probably receive some kind of upgrade in the future anyway, just to cover their rear ends! Pretty sure that the crossing has a datalogger so they would already know if the signals were at fault in any way. Down to a fraction of a second, they would know how long the signals had been activated before the train reached the crossing, and they would know if any of the lights were faulty.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the government rushes to make an announcement about improving safety just so they can look goodMcK&H.Aust wrote:It's good that the m-bell survived, but the crossing will probably receive some kind of upgrade in the future anyway, just to cover their rear ends! Yes there would be some kind of upgrade in the pipeline, even if it is only advance warning signals and an e-bell, some kind of action to look like the authorites have done something to improve the safety of such a "dangerous" crossing. Pretty sure there is a NSW state election next year!TrickyMario7654 wrote:I wonder if the crossing will get gates now, as that's what would usually happen in Victoria.McK&H.Aust wrote:Luckily nobody was injured, although the train was partially derailed when a grain train hit a truck on a crossing with gateless signals at Manildra NSW. I am sure it will be an election promise next year since its “dangerous” and a “concern to the community”McK&H.Aust wrote:Yes there would be some kind of upgrade in the pipeline, even if it is only advance warning signals and an e-bell, some kind of action to look like the authorites have done something to improve the safety of such a "dangerous" crossing. Yes another dangerous crossing waiting for the next victim, just like a crocodile patiently stalking it's prey!trainman7 wrote:I am sure it will be an election promise next year since its “dangerous” and a “concern to the community”McK&H.Aust wrote:Yes there would be some kind of upgrade in the pipeline, even if it is only advance warning signals and an e-bell, some kind of action to look like the authorites have done something to improve the safety of such a "dangerous" crossing. I've checked the OTSI and ATSB websites but no mention yet of who will be doing the investigation.
