TRE Train Rips Thru Tar Tanker Truck in TX

Post by Brian556 » Wed Nov 21, 2018 8:05 pm

A Trinity Railway Express train struck and tore open an 18-wheeler tanker carrying the tar used to make asphalt. The locomotive was coated in tar. This happened at the Calloway Cemetery RD crossing in Arlington TX. Back on Aug 25, a dump truck went around the gate and was struck by the train, killing two occupants. As for this accident, the star-telegram article claims the gate coming down on the truck caused it to spin out and get stuck, but also states that there was another truck in front of it blocking it from clearing the crossing.

This crossing is very unusual, and there are industrial driveways right at it, so there are a lot of ways for something to go wrong here.

Also, there was a third TRE accident in this area recently. A lowboy semi trailer was hit at the Precinct Line Rd crossing. This was caused by a traffic signal a good ways up the road backing up traffic on to the tracks.
