Sadly it has gone, remember seeing in a video that it now has Safetran type 3. I'll try to find the video.

A roofing business in Deer Park, Victoria has a whole bunch of old signals on display including a Teardrop Bell! As a bonus, they also have (what appear to be) vintage AWA traffic lights and even an original 'Red Rattler' carriage! I drove past this place the other day and all of this memorabilia is still there!

I can confirm that another Teardrop bell is still in service on the Portland line! This one is on the Princes Highway at Heathmere.

Here's a video of it from this month (you can hear it in action at 3:35), it also appears to be an earlier cast iron model.


The crossing on Street View. Asides from an LED upgrade, the crossing is still the same today. Amazing, considering that it's on a major highway.

These two are on the Murwillumbah line, which has been out of service since 2004.

Johnston Rd, Eltham (this crossing has had all of the lights removed).

Most of the signals along the line appear to still be in good shape (judging by the latest street view images available), although the track is heavily overgrown.

Old signals (including teardrop bells) still stood on the abandoned Mt Gambier line in 2008. This line hasn't seen a train since 1995:

Found an old cab view video of the line in 1992. I'm wondering if the signals are still there?

I think they're gone now. Found this video of a car trip from Melbourne to Mount Gambier from around 2013 which shows them passing through both crossings, and I couldn't see any signals standing at either of them. (Slow the video speed down to 0.25 from 10:38 to 10:40 to get a better look at the former crossings.)

On a more positive note, the other active crossing on Woolsthorpe-Heywood Road appears to be intact and the Teardrop most likely still in service.

EDIT: Looks like they where still standing in 2011, the Princes Highway crossing can be seen in this video (at 4:22).

Sorry for the quadruple post, but sadly, I can confirm that the Teardrop bell at Hamilton-Port Fairy Road (on the Portland line) has been replaced.

However, it was not replaced with an e-bell, but with a WCH m-bell! You can hear the new bell in this 2014 video.


Back in 2008, it still had the Teardrop bell.
