I personally think that in the case of the Type 1s in Michigan, it might have something to do with the climate and how the bells there are required to ring while the gates are down.

Also, this Hybrid bell at this crossing sounds a bit flat:

One of the GS Type 2s at this crossing had a bit of trouble starting:

The Safetran mechanical bell at US 72 in Scottsboro, AL sounds pretty flat:


Also filmed another flat-sounding Safetran mechanical bell yesterday.

Here's a ASC E-Bell that has its pitch lowered to make it sound creepy.

I believe this a flat sounding WCH Mechanical Bell that starts to die. It's now gone as of December 2017.
