Nice!

Just wondering...but it was ACL that painted their bells black right? or was it SAL? SCL maybe?

I see bells all around Tampa like that.

Well looking through the old railroad maps, it's got to be the SAL because it has a line between Abbeville and Colbert (this line is the Abbeville Sub)

I think the SCL, L&N, and/or SBD (at least briefly) did.
They/Them for me, please.

It'd make sense if it was SCL because Trainzman mentioned SAL above, yet the Port Tampa spur has them as well, and IIRC that line is former ACL.

I've also seen tons of black-painted bells on former L&N lines as well, but not as many as the former SCL lines, so either the late L&N started painting their bells black, or the SBD continued the practice from the SCL for a few years.
They/Them for me, please.

Sorry to shoehorn myself into a conversation that's been stagnant for a month, but as far as I've seen the Seaboard, ACL, L&N, FEC and other Southeastern Raillroads painted most of their Mechanical Bells black up until the 1980's. There's still some Mechanical Bells that still keep there Black Paint to this day!

Here's a video taken in the mid-80's aboard a CSX Inspection Train through Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Practically every Crossing Bell seen in this video is painted Black, just like the old Seaboard used to.

I'd like to know if there's a specific thread for Black-Painted Bells. Maybe I can start one if anyone's interested.

The black-colored paint isn't being kept up though, that's for sure.

Don't believe the Southern ever painted their bells black, either, and I've only seen one (maybe two, if the black RACO I have is ex-G&MO/ICG) bell on former GM&O trackage that's painted black as well.
