Got Another Bell

Post by freebrickproductions » Sat Feb 23, 2019 4:01 pm

Recently, I was chatting with a few other railfans about the Dothan Sub on a post on Facebook, when one of them mentioned he had a Safetran mechanical bell that he wanted to get rid of. Hearing that, I asked him what he wanted for it, and he told me to "name a price". Wound-up getting it for $100 + $40 shipping, and on the 21st, it arrived on my doorstep.

The bell is a 2nd Generation Safetran mechanical bell, and I believe it came from either the CSX Dothan Subdivision, CSX P&A Subdivision, or the CSX Tallahassee Subdivision, as the guy I bought it from lives in Crestview, FL and had gotten it from a friend of his that's a signal maintainer for CSX (out on the Dothan Sub, I believe). It was definitely install by the Seaboard "Family Lines" system, based on the paint job the bell has. The bell also still sounds rather healthy, though it didn't work when I first got it due to the metal pieces the electromagnet is on having been bent outwards, keeping the hammer from moving.

But anyways, here's the pictures and videos of the bell, along with my RACO bell from Pratt Avenue for comparison:

(I'll see about making a post detailing the differences between a 1st Generation and a 2nd Generation Safetran mechanical bell later.)
They/Them for me, please.
