Question about WCH Gate Mechanisms

Post by MapsSurfer » Wed Jul 24, 2019 10:04 am

I've noticed a very subtle difference between modern WCH Gate Mechanisms and older ones, like from the late 80's-2000's.
The older mechanisms seem to have a smoother curve to them, compared to the newer ones that have sharper design.

Here's an example of what I mean.

Older Model: https://www.google.com/maps/@25.8417235 ... 384!8i8192

Newer Model: https://www.google.com/maps/@25.8422374 ... 384!8i8192

I'm not sure if this is just a different series all together, or an modernized version of an already existing model. I do know that these have been around since the 70's, being in production under the Federal Signals brand until WCH was formed. It may just be a slight cosmetic change, but it's been something I've wondered about for a while.
I couldn't find any information about this change anywhere else, so I hope someone can enlighten me here. :)

I wonder if it was changed when they changed their light head molds.

They probably got changed around the time they changed the design of the counterweight arms.
They/Them for me, please.

I think it's mostly just for freshness I don't think any of the internal parts have changed but you can check WC Hayes website. They have some videos of the older mechs and diagrams of the newer ones.

There are some changes with the newer ones, that I believe were federally mandated, such as the EGM cards (as the Safetran S-60s also got these changes).
They/Them for me, please.
