Please Help!! Safetran mechanical bell

Post by Bknuckles0529 » Wed Oct 21, 2020 11:11 am

I’m having trouble getting my dads safetran mechanical bell to work. I’ve cleaned it up, checked all wires, replaced diode on positive post, checked magnet coil and nothing seems to to work. I can get a spark on the contact points but wont pull the bell arm off the contact point. Do you think the discharge rectifier is bad? Any feed back would be awesome!

It's possible the magnets are almost dead, or just a bad connection. I have a bunch of photos of a safetran, so I will look into it.

I put 12v on the magnet by it’s self and the magnet worked like a charm. I’ll attach a photo of what mine looks like but I just can’t see anything that could be wrong with it. I’m using a car battery for the 12v just for temporary use but could that but part of the problem?

Could you get some pictures and/or video of the inside of the bell? Would help in determining what's wrong.
They/Them for me, please.

Can you make it ring by moving the hammer manually? If so, does this part (below) ever open? If not, you'll need to twist the screw (on the left) far enough back that it will open while ringing.

Yes. I can move the bell arm and make it ring. Everything moves like it should.

Have you moved the screw contact back? If so, is it still having the issue?
