Actually, they're slightly more easiler to find down here. It varies from state to state though. The easiest place to find them is Metropolitan Melbourne, were every single crossing on Metro tracks have them. (Including at least few with black and white gates)

Melbourne is a fairly populated city as well, so lots of people get to see them in action everyday I'm sure.
