Nauvoo Road, near Nauvoo, AL

*originally recorded on 7-29-18*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights.
The bell is an RRS mechanical bell that is mounted on the relay case.

This crossing is a somewhat interesting one, and probably the best one left along the NS NA District. Surprisingly, the bell here is mounted on the relay case, and is an Railroad Supply Co. (RRS) mechanical bell! This is very much likely the last RRS bell left in service on a crossing in the state of Alabama as well, though unfortunately, the bell sounds a somewhat flat and a bit rough, so it might be going in the near future. The actual signals are newer with both of them being from the SOU, though the lights were upgraded by NS in the early to mid 1990s. Either way though, the bell here was certainly a great find!

And if you want better audio of the bell, here's a recording from right underneath it:

*originally recorded on 8-5-20*

Signal on the left: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights.
The bell here is an RRS mechanical bell mounted on the relay case.

After catching the train in Lynn, I chased it on down to this crossing just south of Nauvoo as I wanted to record this RRS bell again, and was curious to see if there had been any changes here since I last recorded this crossing.
Sometime between my video here in 2018 and this video, NS replaced the closer signal with a newer one (which appears to feature a re-used mast). Not entirely sure why this was done, but I suspect the old signal got taken out by a car. Thankfully though, the RRS bell here continues to live on as the oldest bell in the state of Alabama!
