7th Street (Bus. US 412), Columbia, TN
*originally recorded on 9-25-18*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a WCH mechanical bell, Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.
Took two videos of this crossing while the TSRR was switching the siding just north of the crossing.
These signals aren't the oldest signals on the TSRR, likely having been installed in the early to mid 2000s, replacing a pair of L&N signals that undoubtedly dated back to when US 412 still ran through downtown Columbia. The LED is much more recent though, and the foundations (or at least two of them) for the older signals still remain at the crossing. This crossing had originally been a three-way crossing, with a side street from a local college intersecting 7th Street from the right, though I'm not sure if it ever had a signal directly for it. Either way, the side street was blocked off with a wall/fence that was put up around the college, so it isn't used for anything anymore other than being a convenient place to park at the crossing, and where the TSRR likes to store a pile of tie plates. This crossing is also the northernmost signalized crossing on the TSRR, as all of the other signalized crossing are actually to the south of it. The highway (well, this crossing is technically on the business route for the highway it comes off of) is also a bit interesting, as US 412 is technically the "daughter" route of US 12, which is on the opposite side of the country from US 412.
They/Them for me, please.
