Pedestrian Crossing, Northbrook, IL

Post by freebrickproductions » Wed Nov 29, 2023 12:14 pm

*originally recorded on 11-15-23*

The lone signal here has a high-pitched Safetran Type 3 electronic bell.
This crossing is located in a quiet zone. Trains do not blow their horns at this crossing.

After I caught the CTA Red Line train, I was able to make it to my first crossing of the day: the pedestrian crossing in Northbrook, IL. After about half an hour of waiting here, I was able to get my second train of the day: an outbound Metra commuter train with an MP36PH-3S for power.

This crossing is a rather nice one, featuring the third-ever bell-only crossing I've filmed so far. The signal here is an old Milwaukee Road install, though the Safetran Type 3 was installed here by Metra back in the mid-2010s I believe to replace the previous bell here (I believe a WCH mechanical?). No idea what bell this crossing had originally, but it seems that the Safetran Type 3 here was installed on the base of a much earlier bell, looking at the top of the mast. As with most Safetran Type 3s on the Metra, this one's a high-tone one, making it the third high-pitched Safetran Type 3 I've ever filmed as well.
