*originally recorded on 1-31-24*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, a Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and WCH LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, a Safetran gate mechanism, and Alstom LED gate lights.

After catching the westbound mixed freight for a second time, we went west one crossing to get the other mechanical bell in Calhoun filmed. After a little bit of waiting, this eastbound local freight came flying through with a KCS GP38-2 leading a pair of KCS GP40-3s for power.

This crossing is another great one, featuring the other remaining mechanical bell on the CPKC Vicksburg Sub. The signals here are another fallen-flag install, being an early-90s MidSouth Rail Corp. install that's still almost entirely original. The only major change here occurred between 2021 and 2023 (likely before the CPKC merger), when KCS (it appears) upgraded the lights here to LED with the current Leotek EV Series LEDs. Thankfully, since then, no further changes appear to have occurred to this crossing.
It's nice to see the other Safetran mechanical bell on this line is still here and working. It sounds rather healthy as well, though it appears that MidSouth Rail didn't set theirs as fast as the ICG did. Do kinda wish this crossing was still fully original and incandescent, but I'm glad to see the older signals are still around here regardless. The closer signal also still retains a diagonally-striped gate arm, which is rather nice to see. Hopefully they remain largely unchanged for many more years to come.
They/Them for me, please.
