Trains and railroads in the media

Can't have signals without railroads, so talk about your favorite locomotives, railroads and any other (non signal) railroad related stuff.

Trains and railroads in the media

Post by legsbluetrain » Tue Mar 03, 2009 3:01 pm

Crossing signals in the media inspired me to start this thread. Will someone sticky this also?Knight Rider(1980s) had KITT jumping through a boxcar in one season and over the train in another. Some music videos, such as Hurricane Chris's "A Bay Bay" video has a BNSF engine and signals in it.Hootie and the Blowfish's "Hold My Hand" has a crossbuck and a railroad bridge without the train in one shot, train in the other after that,in it.Don't forget Under Siege 2,and there were a few train movies also.In The Heat Of The Night had lots of train and crossing scenes in the series, especially the intros to the show.Either Biker Boyz or Torque had a guy on a motorcycle on top of a train. Also don't forget The Fast and the Furious at the end when they jumped the railroad crossing.

The movie "Enemy of the State" has a cool scene with Conrail#6140 and 6174.

You can't forget one of the final scenes in Back to the Future III.
You think your car gets bad mileage? SP 4449 consumes 10 gallons of bunker oil and 100 gallons of water every mile.

Duel had an SP engine in the movie. Also there is a gated signal in the scene when the truck driver tried to push the car into the train.

Lethal Weapon 4: The Chinese Triads kill a government agent (I think...been awhile since I've seen the movie) by pushing his car onto the tracks in front of a train. Later in the movie, they try it again with Mel Gibson and Rene Russo's characters but it doesn't work so well for them that time.

Here's two that I know of:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp3AY4zbRwU

"Midnight in Montgomery" by Alan Jackson.

The other is "Cheap Seats" by Alabama. The video used to be available on Youtube, but it isn't anymore. It is available on MySpace videos however.

I caught a movie today that I haven't seen for a few years...

Me, Myself & Irene with Jim Carrey & Renee Zellweger. There is a scene where they try to catch a ride on a freight train. The scene also has a crossing with gateless signals. You can see both of the signals in the scene and the signals are activated.
