The sidewalk on this bridge over a railroad is dangerous.

If a car were to swerve on the sidewalk, a pedestrian can't go anywhere to get away from it.

That's kinda true
with just about any bridge with a sidewalk, as most aren't built with any kind of railing or guardrail between the sidewalk and the road. However, it's worth noting that,
like most bridges with sidewalks, that one has the sidewalk elevated above the road, so it'd be hard for any cars to swerve onto the sidewalk.

This bridge has a barrier between the sidewalk and the road.

We have a few of those here in Huntsville as well, but those seem to be common where the sidewalk is on the same level as the road going over a bridge. Again, with the curb and a raised sidewalk, it helps prevent swerving cars from going onto the sidewalk, and tends to be used by most agencies as it's likely cheaper to install on a bridge.
