Re: Bells
it doesn't matter to me. A crossing with a bell is so much better than a crossing without a bell.

Re: Bells
Startup til gates start rising, because once the train is gone and the gates started to rise, there is no more danger and you're good to cross and if the bells keep ringing, it could mean another train is coming.

Re: Bells
I chose from start up to when the gates rise.... 95% of the crossings from NS and CSX around here do that, so that is what I'm accustomed to.

Re: Bells
'From start up until the gates start rising' for me. That's how all gated crossings operate in Melbourne. Have them shut off when the gates are lowered makes no sense to me. Same with having them still ring when the gates are rising (especially if they shut off when lowered).
Metro, why do you keep removing Mechanical bells?!

I personally don't have a preference.

Re: Bells
In Australia most of the bells ring from start up until the gates begin to rise. I voted for that option because it's what I'm used to, but it really doesn't bother me either way.
There are some crossings here where the bells shut off when the gates have lowered, and that probably works better for the very busy crossings in residential areas. There are even a small number of crossings where the bell shuts off once the train reaches the island.
