Google Maps Scavenger Hunt (Traffic signals and signs)

Talk about other non-signal stuff here. Make sure to obey the rules though.

Nice find! The main street appears to use yellow lenses, which could've been done back when the signal was installed.
They/Them for me, please.

Technically, what traffic lights are mounted on is officially referred to as "mast arms". Cantilevers are what's used at crossings (save for the crossings that use mast arms, or the traffic lights that use cantilevers...).

Found a photo of this junction not far from my house that was taken in the 80's. It had tin lantern signals at them, before being upgraded presumably in the mid to late 80's. It used to have a pedestrian crossing that just got replaced by pedestrian signals when the junction was overhauled.

Unfortunately, this was the only image i could find.

Heres a picture of the signals in June 2014. By then, the backboards had faded, the pedestrian pushbuttons color were fading and the signals were starting to rust.

The following month in July, the junction was overhauled.

On the topic of Tin Lanterns, this was the last junction in Tin Lantern existence to be sole survivors, they were finally removed in 2001 and replaced by these signals.

A guy used to have a bunch of photos of the tin lantern signals that were taken around 1999, but he deleted all the photos for some reason.

Makes sense although I kinda don't understand why the distinguishing exists considering it's the same concept crossing or not

It might be because mast arms are just arms coming off the mast while cantilevers are more of a structure.

Some very old 1950's Concrete Utilites lamp posts, however it looks that the lamps were modernized in the 1980's with metal brackets and Philips MA50's

GSV caught some work going on with the installation of a new pole for a street lamp!

Sadly, the new streetlamp only lasted 7 years, as it was replaced in early 2016.
