Speaking of something stupid...

This road (Macarthur Blvd) was just extended about 2 miles from the south edge of town to Interstate 72. The road has been open since September of 2010. There are 2 intersections that techincally do not exist yet as the crossroads to Macarthur have not been extended yet. These intersections are fully signalized and THE LIGHTS ARE TURNED ON! I have read that it could be 3 to 4 years before the intersections are actually completed.

There is no Streetview yet... but here is a sattelite picture where you can see the signals that constantly stay green 24 hours a day:

I have already noticed that some of the LED's in these lights are starting to fail. What a complete waste of money and electricity! I can understand actually installing the lights while they were building the road, but they should be bagged and shut off until they are actually needed.

Since you bumped this thread up... I thought I would update my post (above) that was from 6 years ago now (wow!). Those two intersections I mentioned still have never been built. The traffic lights were finally turned off about 2 years ago.

You can see them active if you go back a few years. Those signals "operated" for 5 years for no reason what-so-ever.

That's entirely normal to see for new installs that are not turned on!

I didn't say anything about them not being turned on, i just said i found them bagged prior to activation.

Signals that aren't in use (in any way, shape, or form) have to be covered or turned away from the road by law here in the US, unless it's for circumstances outside of the municipality's control (like power failure), IIRC.

Maybe the signals weren't wired up yet? The signals were new installations, Notice the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop?

Fast foward to 2012, and the signals left in bags for a while are activated.

All signals (With the exception of the new pedestrian signals and the new road) are all Microsense 1st generation lights including the right lane. The lights on the new road are Microsense 2nd generation lights with the pedestrian signals have PEEK heads.

These lights have the main part covered up for some reason, I guess these are louvers? Some of the lights even had clamp style bases.

The louvers were removed a few years ago. Shortly after that the lights were replaced by incandescent Siemens Helios heads.

Those are cages, not louvers. Likely to keep the lights from being damaged by vandals.

Well, did not know what to call it.

Here is a Siemens Mellor with ugly square louvers, they're still there today. RIP those classic PAGE Fibreoptic arrows!

I noticed these traffic lights (Installed in 2011) have some lights for some driveways so they can get out safely without causing an accident. Never saw it in action though.

Also this junction (Installed in 2014) has some lights for driveways too. Both the lights visors are curved for some apparent reason.

They got the idea from this junction. The signals were removed in 2014 when they decided the old road that you came in and out to the hospital was gonna become a one way only road. So now you can't turn right or left there!
