Computer virus going around...

Post by Smjh1979 » Fri Feb 19, 2010 5:20 pm

Earlier Today, one of our members' Facebook pages was hacked, and as a result, one other member as a result ended up with between 10-20 viruses.

I saw on the news 2 days ago about a new virus going around, and it does mention Facebook. The link can be found here: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2010/02 ... nt_sy.html

If you have a Facebook account, beware on what stuff you get, because it has happened to one of our members.

Something similar has been happening on deviantART.

Five different accounts were hacked by the same person, and used for posting porn and other images violating deviantART's TOS.
Three of the accounts were deleted by the hacker, the other two were banned by site administrators.

This is a good reason to have real-time protection.
If you don't, at least have your web browser's safety blocks (IE8's SmartScreen filter; Firefox's attack site and web forgery filters; Chrome's phishing/malware protection filter) on.

To test:
The below link was once a notorious attack site for a rouge antivirus program, but is now an inert advertising domain.
It is still blocked, however, so I consider it a good universal test.

IE8, Firefox, and Chrome should try to warn you away from it.
You may also get a warning form some real-time protection programs.

(I would never knowingly include a link to a real attack site.)

My realtime runners are Norton Internet Security and it updates daily it totality blocked the virus and deleted them (it blocked 10-15 virus from csxrailfan2)
i also have ccleaner good program for cleaning old crap from your computer
also use 2010 Kaspersky AntiVirus
and used to use malware and adware however adware made my computer crash so i got rid of it and malware when i went to reinstall it i went to their site and downloaded A VIRUS that norton, kaspersky and windows live internet security all blocked soo no more malware
csxrailfan2 use that pos McAfee AntiVirus also isnt this the sob that started the viruses because he wanted to sell a product either way with all the rumors i will NEVER use this program
and i use Chrome for internet surfing

I use Microsoft Security Essentials.
Norton is too expensive, IMO.

well it might be expensive but it paid for it shelf for stopping a virus like that.
