Former cantilever supports? Sure are small diameter masts to try to support a cantilever....

I can't really see that. Those are brand-new poles; this is a brand-new crossing. I think the reason for the extreme length is to support the extra-long gates (they have to block 3 lanes).
You think your car gets bad mileage? SP 4449 consumes 10 gallons of bunker oil and 100 gallons of water every mile.
