Likely due to the gate being at an angle, and the junction box being closer to the mast was likely done to prevent the visors from getting hit by a train.
It's already bad enough at the crossings that have visors in the way of semis :Scared:

Marion is a goldmine for older crossing signal equipment. However, CSX is upgrading 8 of their crossings in town, so these won't be too much longer for the world :Awww:

Some of them were upgraded years ago because of the fact that they were gateless (even though they had ped gates, but no road gates). It seems like Ohio requires all gateless crossings to be LED now.

You ain't kidding.
Here's an interesting old design (as of August 2013), but this one has a split crossbuck.

Very Interesting set of Crossings here, evidently they used to be equipped with A-Frame Barriers! https://www.google.com/maps/@40.5906429 ... 90P_pA!2e0 The Grade Crossing down the road has GRS-WRRS Gate Mechanisms working as pedestrian gates. https://www.google.com/maps/@40.5899984 ... 312!8i6656 How come this crossing has pedestrian gates, but no road gates?
