The relay case.

There's an interesting story behind this crossing. Up until quite recently (early 2006) this road used to be quite a bit wider (as you can see by the width of the grade at the crossing, and the mud on either side of the pavement in the pictures) and was known as Thornton Ave. Both the FRA report and relay case still bear that name. At that time it was a normal motor vehicle thoroughfare. Then over the last summer, it was narrowed and reduced to a bike/pedestrian path called Yahara Parkway.

Yahara Parkway #1 is not available because construction was still going on there. Interestingly, the FRA database already has the name change at that one, as well as the crossing signal change. When it was Thornton Ave. and open to motor vehicle traffic, the #1 crossing had signals with gates. Now it has been reduced to crossbucks.

The track is the back leg of a wye, and gets irregular use a few times per week. That's the reason for the 0 daily train count.

This crossing is listed in a quiet zone, but I'm told it isn't a quiet zone anymore.

All pictures were taken on December 29, 2006.

UPDATE: AS OF APRIL 2010, THE WIGWAGS HAVE BEEN REMOVED, AND THE CROSSING NOW HAS PASSIVE CROSSBUCKS AND YIELD SIGNS.
