Miller Ingenuity (WCH) 1st Generation LEDs were the original crossing LEDs offered by Miller Ingenuity. This LED first appeared on Miller Ingenuity's website in 2003, and began to appear on crossings shortly thereafter. Union Pacific was the largest user of these LEDs, although some can be found on shortlines. This LED was discontinued in the late 2000s after being rendered obsolete by Miller Ingenuity's 2nd Generation LED.

The unit contains 156 individual red LEDs, but does not contain sidelights. A rubber gasket holds the LED board and lens together. For some reason, Miller Ingenuity used gaskets that weren't weatherproof. After almost 20 years in service, most remaining Miller Ingenuity 1st Generation LEDs have experienced gasket failures. You can tell if the gasket has failed because the LED board falls backwards into the light head.

This type of LED tends to fade or strobe on video cameras. The Miller Ingenuity 1st Generation LED does not behave this way in real life. This effect is due to the LED's Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM).

Miller Ingenuity 1st Generation LEDs were only produced in a 12" form.

Miller Ingenuity 1st Generation LEDs operate on 8-14 Volts DC and 8-14 Volts AC.

The model number of this LED was 1607-400. The price remains unknown.
