Total Accidents: 3
Crossing DOT #: 747218K
TOTAL
DAILY TRAINS: 64 (AS OF 2007)
This is kind of hard to explain. There used to be a bridge over here that was supposed to replaced by a new one that was supposed to be finished by December 31, 2004. When I was first here in 2003, and my March 13, 2005 trip, nothing's happened. Even traffic is blocked off from crossing the tracks going the other way.
I was unable to find a way around the mess, but anyway, a train went eastbound, and I caught it at this defunct crossing. The signals still work, and the signal you can barely see has a WCH e-bell, while the other one I think, still has a mechanical bell, but I was too far away to tell for sure. If I make it back over here, and the bridge is still not up, and if the signals still exist, I'll try to find a way around to the other side of the crossing. This defunct crossing also got "2 Tracks" signs as well as all the other crossings on the line. |
On August 6, 2005, I found the other way around the crossing! There was just a "ROAD CLOSED" sign at the time, so I drove around it, and snapped these pictures of the crossing, including a turned light as seen in pictures 2, 3, and 5.
There are two General Signals electronic bells. |

All lights are 12"x20" which is a little unusual, as most of the neighboring crossings have 12"x24" lights. |
|
NOTE: I came by here again on August 18, and I guess a road closed sign wasn't enough. There are cement blocks blocking the crossing. Pedestrians can still get to the crossing, but vehicles can no longer get there.
Update: Sometime in 2007, the bridge was FINALLY finished, and traffic was opened up again. The signals stayed the same for a while...
