This crossing was located on the SRY Fraser Valley Subdivision.

 

THE CROSSING HAS BEEN CLOSED DUE TO THE RAIL LINE BEING RELOCATED. THE SIGNALS HAVE BEEN REMOVED ACCORDING TO GOOGLE STREET VIEW.

Note: The tracks are still in place to accomodate the Fraser Valley Heritage Railway when they start running restored interurban cars on the line in summer 2009.

 


Geography:
Hwy. 15 (175 St.)
is west, SRY joins with CN/CP line about a mile east of this crossing.

 

* OCTOBER 31, 2001: A TRACTOR-TRAILER LOADED WITH LUMBER MADE A LEFT TURN OFF OF HIGHWAY 10 (56TH AVE) ONTO 176TH ST. AND FAILED TO STOP FOR THE TRAIN. THE TRAIN CAME AROUND THE CORNER AT 30 MPH HEADING WEST AND COLLIDED WITH THE TRUCK THE TRUCK WAS PUSHED SEVERAL HUNDERED FEET BEFORE THE TRAIN CAME TO A STOP WITH THE LEAD LOCOMOTIVE DERAILED. IN THE PROCESS, THE NORTH SIGNAL (PICTURE 7) AND THE RELAY CASE WERE WIPED OUT AND SEVERAL POWER POLES LINING THE TRACKS WERE ALSO TAKEN OUT. WITNESSES DESCRIBE SEEING A BLINDING FLASH AND THEN COMPLETE DARKNESS AS POWER WAS KNOCKED OUT TO SEVERAL THOUSAND RESIDENTS. THE NORTH SIGNAL AND RELAY CASE WERE REPLACED WITH WHAT YOU SEE TODAY.
