This is a pretty cool pedestrian signal. As you can see, both the hand and walkman are colored. That's something mine doesn't have.
Pictures 2 and 3 shows each section lit up. If the hand in picture 2 looks a little strange, look below... |

Picture 4: This signal is made by McCain. I have to do some researching on that. Picture 5: I have no idea what that is. Picture 6: Take a good look. The hand is an L.E.D. piece! The right half is just an incandescent bulb! Note how similar the light bulb is compared to mine. I think the back of the signal is relectorized to allow the whole image to light up, unlike what mine does. Picture 7: The box is opened up, and shows the colored walkman and red hand from the "inside". |

Picture 8: The PAR-36 style 150-watt halogen bulb. These are similar to the PAR lights used in stage lighting. They have three prongs and are held in place by the circular metal clip that surrounds the bulb. They can sometimes be difficult to remove. Picture 9: This shows the wiring block in each signal section (red, amber, and green). It's difficult to read but the contacts are each marked, from left to right, 'CRAGS' for 'central', 'red', 'amber', 'green', and 'supplement'. I don't know what the supplement contact is for but the indications won't light up unless one is hooked into the central contact. Picture 10: The unique feature of these signals is the ability to mask them off. I achieved this crude imitation through the use of black electrical tape and aluminum foil as shown in this photo. Notice that the image shown is inverted (I am holding the camera upright) due to the unique Fresnel lenses. This setup was only temporary. I now use the signal completely unmasked. Picture 11: A look at the signal lit up with a red light. |

Note: The descriptions for pictures 8-10 were taken from the email which contained these pictures, since I know squat about how these work.
I personally don't like these styles of traffic lights, for numerous reasons:
1) Too square. Traffic lights are supposed to be in a circle shape, not a square.
2) Cannot use L.E.D. lights correctly. A special type of L.E.D. light has to be used with these types of signals. Ball L.E.D. lights will not work!
3) Visibility: There are a few of these around the Prescott, AZ area, and they don't provide very good visibility. The only time you can see them is if you're right underneath them, and by that time, it could be too late, and a red light could be run, causing a life changing accident!
