Here's the 8th crossing
bell! It is a General Signals electronic bell, however, we
won't know which type. More on this below.

Somewhere in these pictures is supposed to be a "GSI" logo or something. I couldn't find it. Can you? |

The top of the

The bottom of the

The two
electronic bells side by side.

The bell with the
top and bottoms taken out.

I think these are the wires to apply the main
power to the bell.
|
I don't know what this is.

Another pair of wires.

This appears to be the top of the bell.

The speaker.

The inside of the speaker, including the
circuit board.

This is very weird. In both pictures, you can see a chip that says "WCH"?! I made picture 20 really large so that you can see the chip clearly.
Pictures 1-20 were taken February 2, 2006. |

Another look at the very bottom of the base.
I still don't really know what the wires exactly do.

Pictures 21-23 were taken February 25, 2006.
This bell was won in an ebay auction on February 1, 2006 for $104.95, plus shipping made the bell cost a total of $116.
When he got the bell, it wasn't wrapped very well, and FOUR black jumping spiders almost bit him! Luckilly he escaped any injuries. When he wires it all up, all he hears is a humming of a fried circuit board!
With the WCH chip above, we're wondering if this is in fact a WCH bell board (maybe a type 1?) It had a really thick layer of dust on it, which probably caused the short circuit.
A letter to General signals says that WCH purchases a lot of bells from them? That only deepens the mystery!
On February 15, 2006, Rrxingrick contacted the seller of the bell, and was shocked to learn that the bell didn't work. The seller's allowing Rrxingrick to keep the dead bell, which General Signals told him, that they could fix! He'll get another bell free of charge from the seller. I don't know how much a new circuit board would cost from General Signals, plus shipping the bell to and from them.
As of this update: Rrxingrick hasn't gotten the replacement bell yet. I predict a negative comment for the seller in the near future...
Who knows what's next though. Keep tuned for more information.
